Jazz Piano Trio
Subtle Burn

Subtle Burn is a piano jazz trio built around piano, upright bass, and drums. The music draws from hard bop, soul-jazz, post-bop, modal jazz, and later electric and contemporary jazz styles, always centered on strong melody, harmonic richness, and a warm, intimate trio sound. Some records lean smoky and late-night, others more driving, spacious, or exploratory, but the core identity stays the same: lyrical piano-led jazz with groove, atmosphere, and a slow-building emotional heat.

The project is built around the idea of a fictional band with a recording history that begins in 1961 and continues into the 2000s. Each album imagines what this trio would have sounded like at a different moment in jazz history, following the evolution of the music across decades while preserving a consistent artistic voice. AI is part of the production process, but the focus of Subtle Burn is the music itself: a believable long-form jazz catalog for a band that never existed, created with the care, continuity, and character of a real ensemble.
